Digitization is a global megatrend that is affecting the whole of society. It can therefore be assumed that fundamental transformations will take place in all areas of life in the near future. Despite the omnipresence of this development, the active design of digital transformation processes is often withheld from experts. Only technical knowledge and understanding enables the empowerment that makes people in digitized environments sovereign actors of change.
The study supplement "Computer Science Competence for All" gives interested students of all disciplines the tools they need to be able to actively participate in digitization. The focus is on the computer science fundamentals of digitization - from programming and building complex systems to solving abstract problems.
Target Group
The target group of this study supplement are students of all disciplines who are interested in the topics of digitization and computer science. By completing the supplementary course of study, students have the following options in particular:
- Job prospects in the IT sector, especially in moderation and bridging functions
- Implementation of simple digitization projects in the area of your own major
- Analytical way of thinking in computer science as an aid to coping with complex tasks
Students of the bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Digitization - Innovation - Society and the master's degree in Computer Science are exempt from completing this study supplement, as they are already taught the desired skills as part of their regular studies.
Educational Goals
The aim of the study supplement “IT Competence for All” is to impart the technical basics of digitization. In particular, graduates of this offer have the following skills:
- Knowledge of central terms and concepts of computer science
- Basic programming skills
- Ability to design simple digitization processes
- Competence in solving abstract problems
Requirements
The basic module consists of the four subject areas "Data Processing", "Programming", "Systems" and "Theory". For the basic module, courses with a total of at least 12 ECTS credit points from the range of courses published in PLUSonline must be completed. In the advanced module, the content of the basic module is deepened and linked to fundamental issues of digitization. The free selection of courses to be attended from the range of courses enables individual topics to be set that are adapted to one's own field of study. For the advanced module, courses from the range of courses published in PLUSonline with a total of at least 12 ECTS credit points must be completed. It is recommended to attend the courses marked with (*), as these were already designed for students who are not studying computer science..

An informal registration for the study supplement by e-mail to ifa [at] cs.sbg.ac.at (subject: "Registration study supplement") is requested. Registration for the individual courses takes place via PLUSonline. The Flexible Learning Center has summarized the guidelines for completing the study supplement and for certification here.
