"Die Lange Nacht der Forschung" was, as always, a tremendous success. It was especially great to see so much interest from kids and teenagers - maybe some future computer scientists.

Our department was represented by three different stations, to showcase different aspects of computer science: from human-robot interactions, all the way to the traces we leave online.

NAO Robot           NAO Robot

Human and Machine - A Super Team

The cute but impressive robot, NAO, enchanted the minds and hearts of viewer with his talents and entertaining dancing abilities.

"Small, but wow“ is just the right phrase for this little machine, as his learning ability and strength are quite impressive and similar to that of a child.

Vein Scan not Fingerprint

Our finger vein research team was very enthusiastic to present their special, in-house developed, scanner, that can photograph the veins in the hand.

Their research should show that finger vein scans are harder to trick, more user friendly, and universally adaptable, and therefore could be used in future to replace finger print scans.

What Traces Do We Leave Behind Online?

We spend more and more time online every day and most of us don't know, exactly how much information we expose. This station let people connect to a special network, and then complete simple tasks on their phone. At the end of the experiment, participants were shown all the information that their phone revealed in the background, which was easily obtainable over the network.
