Abstract:

Quantum computing is getting a lot of attention lately, but what is it really? Quantum computers are not here yet, but we can already study what they will do when they are. Without going into the technical details I will give you an overview of what makes quantum computing different, what its applications are, and how realistic a quantum future is. In the end you will know whether you are interested in learning more, or whether quantum computing is not for you.

Zur Person Jordan van Apeldoorn:
Last year Joran van Apeldoorn finished his PhD in Quantum algorithms for optimization at the Amsterdam research institute QuSoft, which is part of CWI. Currently his time as a PostDoc is split between QuSoft and the institute for information law, looking at the societal & governance implications of quantum computing.
