Machine learning techniques have become an essential key to success in biomedical research. In this talk, Dr. Stephan Winkler will outline basic aspects of machine learning and concepts of evolutionary computation, especially of black box modeling, symbolic regression, the HeuristicLab framework for heuristic optimization and variable interaction networks. In different collaborations, these techniques have been applied for (i) the identification of virtual tumor markers, (ii) the identification of tumor prediction models, (iii) glucose prediction models, (iv) the identification of classifiers of health states based on NGS data and (v) the identification of classifiers of RHD states based on fluorescence images. Results from a selection of those
projects will be presented.
